Sneak Peek on Scandinavian Interior Design History

Before we move ahead with the Scandinavian interior design, let’s have a brief sneak peek on the place called Scandinavia. Scandinavia lies in the northern regions of Europe which consists of countries like Denmark, Norway, Faroe Islands, Finland, Iceland and Sweden. Scandinavian interior design is mostly based on the contemporary styles along with a tinge of casual manifestation. Generally it has been seen that homes which are designed on the basis of Scandinavian interior design, have very simple and modest designs giving more importance to lighter shades. The other primary feature which is kept in view while going for the Scandinavian interior design is the maximum usage of natural light. So if you want to decorate your home or office basing the theme on Scandinavian interior design, then you need to emphasize upon few basic colors, furnishings as well as fabrics to give your home (or your office) that contemporary and glossy look of that perfect Scandinavian interior design.

There are few basic criteria’s which essentially needs to be adhered to when you decide to embark upon the Scandinavian interior design. Though this list is not exhaustive and can be extended on your creativity, some of the basics ones are the colors, the furniture chosen, the fabrics used, the floorings, as well as the accents to name a few. Let’s brief a little on these to aid you in having the perfect contemporary Scandinavian interior design. So are you ready folks?

To start off with, the colors which are used in Scandinavian interior design are mostly neutral having the shades of pale colors like whites, lighters shades of blues, beiges, etc. Some also prefer the light green shades bringing nature to your home (or office). Few even prefer wood finishes which gives a better natural look and are lighter in weight. In some cases it has been seen that Scandinavian interior design also embark upon bolder shades of red for a dramatic finish. Next we move to second segment which is the furniture. Scandinavian interior design focuses on modest and light stained woods which are natural in texture and finish. In case the furniture which is made is painted, then light shades of white or pale yellow are preferred. Scandinavian interior design emphasizes on minimal usage of upholstery as well as cushions. It has also been seen that Scandinavian interior design has low frame bed with not much of ornamentation either on the head or the footboard.

Coming to the fabrics section, the most preferred colors used in Scandinavian interior design are of the natural light shades with floral patterns or strips. While deciding upon the Scandinavian interior design for the floorings, it has been seen that light shades or bleach ones with hardwood floors are preferred. Some also opt for white floors having stencil decorations. As far as accents are concerned, it has been seen that Scandinavian interior design requires no exaggerate ornamentation or accent pieces. Modest stuffs like simple designed table lamps, glass items with a clean finish, light weight cast iron fixtures floral patterns for window –screens or be it for the dividers. All these add to the class of the wonderful Scandinavian interior design.

Few things to note while opting for Scandinavian interior design are:

++ Usages of candles especially in winters.

++ The concept of light is used very thoughtfully as Scandinavia is a region which is covered in darkness for most of the time in a year hence a great importance is given in using sunlight as well as fresh air while refurbishing your home on the basis of Scandinavian interior design.

++ Less usage of curtains and if used are of light or pale shades.

++ Usage of wool designs as Scandinavians are known for their renowned designs for wool used in wearable or in non-wearable form.

++ Images of nature are incorporated while one embarks upon Scandinavian interior design.

Advices on Minimalist Interior Design

A minimalist interior design style is one that focuses on function rather than items purely placed for decoration. Minimalists believe that everything should have a purpose, and work within those guidelines to create some stunningly artistic rooms.

It is true that you do really need to be a certain kind of person to get on well with a minimalist scheme – messy people need not apply! But seriously … if you find it easy to stay neat and tidy, are very organized and hate clutter in any form, this is very likely a look that will work for you.

Here’s are some of the guidelines that will help you understand more about Minimalist Interior Design.

Less is better – Minimalist Interior Design

That goes for everything to a minimalist interior designers. They favor white walls, and the use of color only as an accent. Even with accent colors, they use neutral earth tones or a single bright red or blue. Walls and ceilings are not textured, and even the fabric of the furniture and curtains is smooth and plain. They will include one or two pieces of art, and no spaces that are used only for displaying items or collections.

Function equal Simplicity – Minimalist Interior Design

Minimalist designers strive for a feeling of openness and simplicity. This can be a particularly effective in small rooms where a lot of decorations can give the room a cluttered look. Minimalists keep rooms open and airy, even down to including furniture that sits low in order to let the openness of the room flow uninterrupted.

Walls and Color – Minimalist Interior Design

Of course, white has got to be the ultimate color for any self-respecting minimalist scheme.

But, you can opt for a softer look, by choosing warm neutrals and colors from nature. Try stone, beige, taupe, brown and even green. Your base colors should be ‘pale and interesting’ – but go for a splash of a bolder color for accents.

Your accents can be as little or as much as you like. Try a vase, or cushions for quite a subtle introduction to color, or a whole wall or sofa, for a bigger statement!

Only choose one color, or color group, for your accent color. Bright red is a good choice, or any other bright color. As an alternative, just choose a darker natural tone – a deep green or brown will always work well.

If you need help for your dream home, do contact us and we will get back to you shortly.

Elegant Interior Design – What does it mean in Singapore?

An elegant interior design is something which anyone would love to behold and live in. It creates a cozy atmosphere for one to relax as it inculcates the zest and liveliness within one. Moreover we all know that beauty is something which is loved and enjoyed by all and when one gets to experience an elegant interior design within the four walls of one’s home, the feeling is indescribable. For all those individuals living in Singapore, looking for that ideal and elegant interior design, you have reached the right place.

Light Play The Main Role

While you opt to refurnish your home or office, it is not always necessary that you need to get hold of a professional interior designer. Even you can do the same and give the same classy ambience and provide that elegant interior design to your place. All that you require is some creativity, aesthetic sense and somewhat small idea on the contemporary trend of today. Apart from this when you want to have an elegant interior design, it is necessary that you should optimally utilize the basic concepts of the region and its strengths and try your best to remove the weakness present. While creating an elegant interior design, it is very important that you refurbish the place taking into consideration aspects like the geographical, cultural as well the weather conditions prevailing in the region.

Lights give a distinct point for Elegant Design Style

While telling this, we never keep aside the importance of an interior designer who would surely aid in getting you stuffs and would be able to guide you efficiently on how to utilize items, space, etc competently. It has also been seen that professional interior designers belonging to various regions of Singapore get the access to numerous resources which the common man does not have. Stuffs which creates that elegant interior design, like the markets selling items on wholesale basis for appliances, fabrics, flooring, fixtures, etc. Other than this the presence of a professional hand would no doubt aid you in making the right decision in spending money for the right things which give the added manifestation thereby providing you with an elegant interior design. In some cases it has also been seen that when you hire a commercial designer, the professional is able to get you some free samples from the markets which is indeed a great bonus for creating elegant interior design.

Living Area

Some of the Elegant Interior Design essential criteria’s are discussed in brief here:-

++When the living room, bed rooms or kitchen are designed, a lot of emphasis is laid upon the creating a cozy warm atmosphere using the element of nature in high proportions. Also to have an elegant interior design, it is essential that the room appears to welcome the individuals.

++Never use very dark shades and keep to the lighter or pale shades, Usage of shades of green brings a proximity to nature. Also incorporation of green plants in the living space, dining area, etc would give the home an elegant interior design.

++Usage of dark shades would make the space look all the more congested and hence would not be an elegant interior design.

++The accessories used to decorate and give that elegant interior design to your rooms are basically stuffs like gilded-mirrors, crystal-lamps, paintings (preferably ones which bring in the pictures of nature), etc. The main theme which is used in Singapore interior design is to incorporate the element of nature as much as possible. So while one opts for an elegant interior design, one needs to keep this point in view.

++Fresh plants (indoor type) are also a good idea for creating elegant interior design.

Balinese Interior design Style

When it comes to creating a stunning visual and ambient environment in our work place or at our homes, the users and the inhabitants cannot compromise on acquiring the best and the most suitable enhancements. It’s here where the exuberant role of interior design and its versatile aspects and factors comes to play. According to contemporary interior design experts, the planning and designing of any interior, wherever it be, the elements of aestheticism, practicality, renovation and modernism has to be intermingled with purpose-serving and productivity-oriented improvements. Thus, here comes the role of the interior designer and his creativity.

Interior designing has evolved as one of the prime domains in the arena of construction as well as beautification. As every region has its own culture as well as lifestyle, similarly the interior designing too varies from one region to the other. While concentrating on the Asian interior design, with reference to Singapore which has a Petri-dish of cultures inhabiting the place, it is really tough to follow anything like a ‘one-dimensional-design’. The ‘Balinese Interior Design Style’ is one of the most popular designs which are found in most of the houses across the regions of Singapore. One would find numerous interior designers who cater to the same style but the onus lies on the individual or the customer to check and round upon that particular company or professional who would be able to provide you with the Balinese Interior Design Style going with the space you have.

Balinese Resort Style - Bedroom

Balinese Interior Design Style : A brief review

The Balinese Interior Design Style or the commonly known topical style is liked my many. The design is totally based upon Asian traditional decorative styles incorporating natural-materials, contemporary shapes, as well as the minutest craftsman details.

Contemporary Balinese Style Bedroom

Distinctive features of Balinese Interior Design Style:

++ Color: The Balinese interiors always try to adhere to lighter shades as they try to use naturalist sources for decorating or furnishing a place. This can be very well evident from the lighter shades which is opted to by almost all the Balinese interior designers to remain in close proximity to the nature.

++ Wallpapers: Floral designs, wooden furnishing designs etc which makes the user feel closer to nature is the basic theme which is followed in Balinese Interior Design Style.

++ Furniture: Though the modern contemporary designs are incorporated, but still the roots to the natural Balinese Interior Design Style is maintained throughout.

++ Lighting: Maximum use of natural light is used while one tries to design ones interiors on the basis of the Balinese Interior Design Style.

++ Flooring: The designers have always tried to keep the basic Balinese interior design the same and tries to experiment the same with some of the modern trendy styles without damaging or shedding off the natural look which is imparted by the Balinese Interior Design Style

Balinese Design Kitchen Style

Few basic aspects of Balinese Interior Design Style are:

++ Balinese Interior Design Style gives more importance to open spaces and avoids cluttering.

++ Interiors are always breezy with thespian views which forms the integral part of every Balinese Interior Design Style.

++ Usage of maximum natural light.

++ Balinese Interior Design Style uses materials (natural) and uses wood of various origins as well as shades. One of the ever favorite is the teak wood. The others being bamboo, Stones, papers, clay, etc.

++ Balinese Interior Design Style has the Balinese –palette as one of the most striking features.

There are much more to this, but the space constraint forbids me from elaborating more. To sum up, it would be right to state that, for giving your rooms that distinctive Balinese Interior Design Style, it is essential that you opt for interior designers who have thorough professionals and have a wide array of experience in designing the same for a long list of satisfied clientele.

You might wonder on why you should choose upon this Balinese Interior Design Style, when there are so many diverse varieties to be found around right? This is because Balinese Interior Design Style uses the outdoor spaces creatively and with the presence of professional hands the effect would be even better.

What’s the quality of Target’s clothes?

I don’t mind spending money on clothes when they last. However being in my twenties, I’m on a pretty tight budget and I’m in the market for some new additions to my wardrobe. I really like the clothes that Target sells however I’m concerned about the quality. It’s just not worth it to me to wash it three times and watch it fall apart.

Well, targets clothes are really cute, but i think that some of the things are to overpriced like last year i bought a really cute sweater henley fromt the juniors department and i only wore it once and washed it once and the stiching started to rip and fall apart and i paid $15 for it. I still like some of their clothes, just make sure that the fabric will hold up and that it’s thick enough and strudy enough to wash. Their flats are cute though and last a long time so are the shoes. Hope this helps!

NiDS answers:

When you say you are a cross dresser, I assume that means you were born male and want to dress as a female. I have a cousin that has decided he wants to dress as a girl. He just told me a few months ago. He has some really gorgeous wigs now, but I guess you are looking for clothes and not accessories. As a female, I would say that skirts are some of my favorite things to wear. You can wear a fitted t-shirt with a cute skirt, or a tank top, or a pretty blouse. Of course, you have to cross your legs or keep your knees together in a skirt or you look really tacky whether you are a guy or a girl. I also love boots during the fall and winter. I have several pairs of long leather boots that I like to wear with skirts. Hope this helps.

TARGET AND WALMART? Sorry it’s just that that’s a more cheap look. IS THERE NOT A MALL WHERE YOU LIVE?
TJ Max- Cheap long lasting clothing that are still cute.
Hot Topic- If your looking for a emo/goth/punk look.
Banana Republic- Great Accessories
Vanity- A store with a Vintage Charm
Aeropastle/Abercrombie/Abercrombie & Fitch/Hollister- Sorry these stores are all kind of the same, because they all have T-Shirts, Jackets, Sweaters, etc. With there name on it.
Pac Sun- It’s suit for the sun, which explains its name. I recommend this for when you need to buy a totally cute bikini, but they also have some super cute things too, besides swimwear!
Okay so I think I’m getting a little annoying with the deffinitions of what kind of clothes these stores sell, I’m just going to list a topic and put some stores down.

I was then thinking of having a loft bed like this to save space: http://www.bedzrus.co.uk/cart.php?target… (i would have it without the chest of drawers) i could have the ladder etc. in orange, pink, black or lilac. I would also replace the wardrobe with this chair: http://www.johnlewis.com/230227546/Produ… (i already have the chair in my room, it is just taking up a lot of space so i could put it under the loft bed instead).
Painting my old furniture?

k i have this wardrobe that i had before i painted my room and its light brown i my room it a different shade of brown and all my new furniture in my room id basically a dark brown to black color.
i wanted to paint but not sure what to use because its compressed wood with wood designed paper on it its a really sturdy wardrobe though i wanted to turn it into some random shelf or book shelf just so i don’t waste it. would sand paper work to adhere the paint onto the wardrobe and i want it to be shiny so what is a good paint to use i was thinking latex acrylic paint would that work?? and i was wondering because it a really dark color would i need primer for it? and finally do i need it to cure once I’m done for like a week or so i just let it to dry for 48 hours and then just use it.

i was told to do this in a well ventilated area and i was wondering if i can do it in my dads garage would dust adhere onto the paint and would it rune the whole wardrobe.

NiDS answers:

Yes you would need to use primer if it is pressed wood with a photo finish. I would go to my local hardware store and purchase a good primer and lightly sand the piece first. A light sanding will give a surface to which the primer would stick easier, then use your choice of paint finishes gloss or matte. Primer does smell awful so you would need a place to do this. The dry time will be listed on the primer and paint both. Good luck with your painting and remember nothing ventured nothing gained, so try it, and best of luck.

NiDS answers:

I would repaint the wardrobe a bright tropical color, then get some hawaiian stencils and do a random design all over it.

You could get brown bookshelves (or paint them brown) and add fake palm frans to the top of them, like a palm tree in your room and maybe put them on either side of your bed. If you have enough space in the bookshelves, leave a shelf or two open per case and add a hawaiian style nick nack or frame with your favorite pic.

Get a grass table skirt and put it around the bottom of your bed.

Check on ebay or delias.com for some Roxy bedding. (Or get fabric pens and draw some designs on your comforter & pillow cases, with the approval of your mom).

This website sells grass table skirts and other cool stuff you can add to your room, and it’s not too expensive:

New Home Furnishings & Storage?

I will be buying my first new home in UK. This is a 3 bedroom townhouse and totally empty.
As I do not own any furniture, I will be needing to buy lots of storage and refurbish this house with wardrobes, cabinets, drawers, bookshelves, tables etc.
As buying the house itself has incurred quite a lot of costs, I am trying to look at low costs for buying all furniture, yet want to keep this is good quality – long lasting furniture.
I would ideally like someone to measure, deliver and fit all storage in my house. I have looked at furnitures in IKEA & Argos but I would have to do the measuring, which I am not confident about, nor am capable to fit this on my own.
I tried going to websites such as www.strachan.co.uk and www.sliderobes.com which provide service for designing, measuring and installing but neither their website / nor brochures indicate any price. I don’t have possession of the house as yet to invite a survey and I will have to budget now on how much to spend on. I have also tried looking at charity shops but they do not come co-ordinated sets.
Please can you advise where should I start looking to meet my requirements?
All suggestions welcome!

They may be able to make it a class project, or one of the new graduates may help you without charging you a lot of $$. If anything, the school can be a great resource.

Find a large piece of fabric to hang on one of the walls (try ebay, lots of very cheap bits ! Look at vintage fabrics too, or an old patterned sheet you like, or paint on an old sheet !). Hang a piece of string from one end of one wall to the other end, use coloured clothes pegs, or wooden ones that you paint yourself (even better if you do little designs, stripey ones, polka dot ones…), and hang photographs and postcards on the line, some jewellery that would look nice displayed, or make little bunting with odd scraps of fabric, even from old clothes !
Make a colourful display with terracotta flower pots all painted different colours (again maybe with pattern), and display them on the chest of drawers, and use them for storing jewellery, perfume, cosmetics… Or if you don’t have flower pots, collect a few tin cans of different sizes (baked beans, whatever…), unglue the labels in hot water, and cover them in fabric or patterned sticky paper, and do the same.
With sticky paper or paint, you can recycle lots of household objects. Pick a colour theme that will go with your cream, pastel colours with polka dots and stripes, or chocolate and green (and maybe some pink), or bright colours if you think it’s too “flat”.

How should I arrange my bedroom?

My bedroom is very small. Its about 4×3.5m. It gets very crowded because I have a 1.25m desk, a single bed, a vanity table with drawers all the way down and is just over 1m, a book shelf which is about 1metre wide and 0.75 metres high, and a green beanbag. When you walk into my room, the wall to your left, which is about 3.5m long (starting from left to right) has my vanity table a 20cm gab, then my wardrobe which is built into my wall but you can’t walk into it.there is only just enough space to open my bedroom door because the doors are so badly spaced. The wall opposite you has a full length mirror, a 2metre window with floor length curtains, the desk that goes from 1/4 of the way past the wondow to about 30cm from the wall.the wall to the right when you walk in has a bedside table, my bed(goes into the middle of the room) and my beanbag in the corner. The wall behind you when you walk in has the beanbag in the corner, my bookshelf, a washing basket and the door you just walked in through.
sorry if the description was a bit confusing, but I need another way to arrange my furniture so it maximizes the space I have. I have tried the bed against the wall, out from the wall and pretty much everywhere because I find my room so cramped and small. I can’t buy anything new or get rid of anything, except maybe the bedside table. I really want one of these:

“The bedroom is your own personal space,” , “use your imagination to make it your own personal haven.”

Avoid ornate designs for cupboards and other furniture in your bedroom.

Stick to simple, modern designs. These look better in the long run.

Using a laminate on the furniture is a good option in the bedroom.

There are some great designs and colours available in laminates nowadays.

Why use laminates?

~They offer a clean finish.

~They are easy to maintain (almost scratch-resistant) and can be cleaned with soap and water

Hey. I will shortly be having the walls of my bedroom repainted, and will also be having the floor changed.

Play around with the Sherwin Williams color visualizer to find something that you like. It is the best paint visualizer on the web, imho. I like how their color palette is laid out, I like that you can search by color family & color name, the “painted” rooms look the most realistic, and it suggests coordinating color schemes. You can literally spend hours:

http://www.sherwin.com/visualizer/

I think a pale blue – practically white – like “ice cube” (# 6252) would look great.

You can also take a photo of your house & upload it to the makeover gallery on this website:

http://www.roomvues.com/

You can get color suggestions & they’ll photoshop them onto your room so that you can get an idea of what it will look like.

The stuff you don’t use, keep it if you want to but put it somewhere else in the house like the basement or attic. Those large bags made by ziploc are great for stuffed animals. Pack the stuff neatly and in boxes or plastic tubs so they don’t get musty. Find a safe place where you can keep all of that to go through later. For now, try to keep what you need in your room. It makes cleaning much easier the less you have to work around.

Well not the same, as everyone’s life story is unique to them, but similar.
Differences. I have worked in the past from as early as I was able to get a work permit because I had to help support my parents household. I worked and went to and graduated from college with a bachelors degree three years ago. I havent done anything since and can barely walk out the front door let alone sustain myself… Its been almost three years since Ive done anything. Ive never had and disability or state assistance… Though GOD would it help. Nor adequate psychiatric care because I do not have the money nor have I ever.

To the similarities.
The diagnoses. Bpd and ptsd tack on bipolar 1 with psychotic features and exchange explosive rage with avoidant personality disorder. You blow up I lock myself away like a vegetable for 3 years.

I haven’t been in jail or been physically attacked but I have been molested, sexually assaulted, and raped more times than I can count on one hand.

I have no income what so ever and haven’t for just under 3 years since I graduated college and wound up in a mental hospital. I have less worldly possessions to my name and yes it bothers me because with no relationships with others to speak of (besides my boyfriend which I’ll get to) with others and little worldly possessions no income and being homeless other than that said boyfriend I am trapped. I haven’t the finances, the support of others, the support of assistance to be able to leave this house if I want to…

What I have. A microwave, a desktop computer, a land line phone, some dishes, some cloths, a drawing table, and momentous like photos and stuffed animals Ive saved over the years. I do not drive I do not have or ever have had a license or a vehicle. Nor a place to live. I went to college in large part because I needed a place to live. I lived in the dorms all year round for 4 and a half years to keep a roof over my head. I was homeless upon graduation again and a guy took me in. He let me move in with him he liked me I didn’t like him as far as relationship is concerned but welcomed the friendship and a roof over my head. Over three years of supporting me financially somewhere in there I just caved and decided that I may as well let him call me his girlfriend. He has schizo effective, ocd, has no family or friends. So its just he and I. He doesn’t like people he doesn’t like to leave the house aside from work. So we do not do anything together. He barely makes enough money for us to live on. We rarely buy food. For the last several weeks Ive lived on cheese slices and wheat bread peanut butter and soda. We have mountains of dirty laundry because we can not affoard to wash our cloths and his vehicle broke last year and we can not affoard to fix it eaither. We do our laundry in the tub with a plunger. For 2 of the 3 years Ive been here he was an alcoholic. I had to get him into rehab.

And the list goes on…

I have never been able to make and keep friendships. I am ostracized.
I have never really lived a life either. Everyday has been more about surviving. And for all the work I used to do, all the way I someone how managed to hold down jobs keep food in my mouth and get a degree, it has been for nill. I am in just as bad a spot as ever with nothing to show for it and somehow in there something in me stopped working after I went into the mental hospital. I can no longer even function for myself enough to get let alone hold down a job. It seems I have even less now.

But it is what it is. Though I can relate to you and I know it sucks. (I’ll be 25 in april) I am well aware that their are others far worse off as much as their are others far better off. And for the fact that I am not far worse off than I am I take that as a blessing.
Atleast I have something to eat and somewhere to wash myself. Heat in the winter. Others can only dream of that. Currently I am not being hit hurt or raped. Again others can only dream of this.

The thing that helps me put up with it all and always has, the lonliness, the periodic hunger, all of it… Is to focus on what I do have at any given time and count those things as blessings because it could be worse. And I am greatful for the fact that its not worse.

You have dreams good for you. Mine have sort of all dried up for now.. But we’ll see. Your dreams are attainable. You seem articulate and intellegent enough you have the capacity to change things for yourself.

“the depth of our despair only increases the heights of our success”

Everyone has challenges in life some more than others. Its not what challenges weve had its how we deal with them and what we make of ourselves with the challenges we’ve had.

Many people have survived situations of intense poverty isolation abuse and illness. Its not inescapable.
I wish you luck.
… And while Im at it I’ll wish me some luck too.
